Your loss, Papa Joe's. The First National Building's opulent, 3,000-square foot retail space—best known for being stood up by the Papa last spring—has finally locked down a permanent tenant called Central Kitchen + Bar. Slinging "approachable, upscale bar food," the restaurant envisions a space with "vintage crystal, reclaimed searchlights, and an open kitchen." Indoor seating should reach about 120, plus a handful of seasonal outdoor tables.
Construction has been completely hidden in anticipation of a big unveiling later this summer, leaving us with a tough wait. Curbed toured the ballroom-like space during its temporary stint as CityLoft, just a few months back. Assuming the remod doesn't somehow ruin the interior's historic grandeur, Central Kitchen has the potential to be gorgeous. Right now, the official ETA is July.
