Bronx Bar Co-Owner Builds New Neighborhood Bar Downtown

New, 5 comments

A long-awaited downtown bar finally has an ETA. Way back in 2013, Curbed reported that Paul Howard, co-owner of Cliff Bell's and Bronx Bar, was planning a new watering hole for the corner of Grand River and Farmer. Things were quiet until yesterday's blurb from Crain's, which claims the unnamed bar is shooting for a late summer debut. "It'll be a neighborhood corner bar with a small kitchen and a patio," Howard told Crain's. Sounds a lot like a downtown version of Bronx Bar, no?
The bar will share the mid-century building with the PuppetART Theater, a longtime tenant on the first floor. The initial renovation plans included tearing off the old awnings to expose a decorative steel band hiding beneath, restoring the building's sleek, Streamline-Moderne appeal. Plans also call for a new patio on the wide sidewalk under the People Mover track.
