As the most famous building in the path of I-94's expansion, the United Sound Systems Recording Studio in Midtown has become a rallying point for critics of the $2.7 billion project. As efforts to shield the studio with historical designations gain steam, MDOT is now offering to have the studio moved elsewhere. United's ownership has yet to publicly respond, nor is it clear where the studio would end up.
Also of note: MDOT has decided to "reevaluate" the project's design, emphasizing that some of its elements could be flexible before major construction begins in 2018. Community meetings will be held throughout the summer. Sign up for email updates and more info the project's website.
