The battle to dominate Detroit's soccer market pitches the wildly popular Detroit City FC against the Michigan Bucks, a team owned by the mayor's brother. With both organizations searching for a suitable home stadium, the city has reportedly indicated a willingness to "provide land on the Detroit waterfront for either club if it needs more room."
Currently playing at Cass Tech, the more popular DCFC is the only team in need of "more room," hence the interest Hamtramck's Keyworth Stadium. On the other hand, the Bucks are more established and in a higher league, possibly placing them in a better position to finance and build a stadium from scratch. Either way, a soccer stadium on the riverfront is bound to draw a crowd.
