Thanks to a new set of LED bulbs, the 92-year-old Belle Isle Bridge is brighter than ever. The upgrades were funded by a $50k donation from Platinum Equity, the umbrella company of Pistons owner (and billionaire) Tom Gores. Most of us missed last night's official re-lighting ceremony, but don't you worry: Platinum Equity had it all professionally filmed, possibly at a cost rivaling the donation itself. Warning: the music is a tad dramatic.
Electricity-wise, the new bulbs reportedly cost a third of their predecessors. The Free Press also mentions that similar lights were installed around the lagoon. Are they talking about the big, rusty tower lights that once illuminated the boating area?
