At 113 years young, the old Detroit Boat Club isn't going anywhere. The nonprofit Friends of Detroit Rowing just signed a 30-year lease with the Michigan DNR, D:Business reports, putting the weather-beaten building on a path to revival. The goal: "Refurbish and reopen" by the end of 2015.
The organization has already dumped $300K into repairs, but the biggest issues—electrical and mechanical repairs—still need funding. If all goes according to plan, the building could be rented out for private events or weddings. With beautiful interior ballrooms, huge river views and even a sizable bar, the boat club would make an excellent party venue.
