Jurassic Detroit: Check Out the City's Dinosaur Buildings

New, 3 comments

Free Press weekend coverage included a feature on ten "dinosaur buildings" of Detroit – large, long vacant structures still waiting solid development plans. Among the included are Louis Kamper's Book Tower, Albert Kahn's Free Press building, the Old Wayne County Courthouse, and the city's infamous Fail Jail.
Developers have found the empty beasts difficult to renovate and repurpose because of their size and upfront monetary commitment. And while other revitalization chugs along around town, the piece argues that allowing these giants to go extinct could ultimately hinder the city's long-term recovery. - Leslie Youngblood
