On the outside, this place says "1925 craftsman," but on the inside, everything is new. Extensively remodeled in 2012, the house has all new mechanicals, a new roof and the newest new thing of all, a basement theater that has been done absolutely to death (the custom movie time rug may be negotiable, although perhaps some things are best taken far, far away from your new home).

This 3-bed, 4-bath home, just a 10-minute walk from at least two bike nights a week in Royal Oak's bustling downtowns, has a massive kitchen dripping with tumbled stone, granite and Restoration Hardware style. The rooms are large and bright, with refinished hardwood floors. One fireplace has a stone surround (and scary TV-cum-mantle art). The main bath has a rain shower and jetted tub—and a horrifying vessel sink, but nothing is perfect.

Pre-renovation, in 2012, the house sold for just $70K. Three years and a total overhaul later, it's aiming for a half-million-dollar turnaround. - Rebecca Golden
