Open House Offers Sneak Peek at New Shipping Container Condos

New, 16 comments

A new Detroit housing development made entirely of shipping containers will make its public debut Friday July 10 with a public open house. While the condos aren't quite move-in ready, the open house will show Detroiters what life inside the box might be like. The Loft Warehouse, a Detroit real estate group acting as sales agent for the project, and its developer, ThreeSquared, will show off one of their soon-to-be-on-the-market shipping container condos from 3-6 pm at an event that also promises food trucks, free parking and live entertainment.
While shipping containers have served as construction materials in other states, ThreeSquared's condos will be Michigan's first multi-family shipping container housing developments. Shipping containers eliminate the need for wood framing, making them a nicely sustainable alternative to more traditional building materials.

The open house takes place at the development's property at 2549 Trumbull Ave and will feature tours a of one two-family home. In addition to the Trumbull Ave property, ThreeSquared is breaking ground on two other developments: Kaline Squared, an 8 unit building in Corktown, and the Rosa Parks Squared, a midrise building in Woodbridge.
