The M-1 rail project and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close part of I-75 (the Fisher Freeway) downtown this weekend. The highway will be inaccessible between I-75 (Chrysler Freeway) and M-10 (the Lodge), from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17. The closures will allow crews to demolish a Woodward avenue overpass as part of the ongoing project to bring a tiny amount of extremely expensive public transit to three miles in the business-y parts of the city. Northbound I-75 will close at the ramp to Rosa Parks Boulevard.

Off ramps from I-75 north to Clark and Livernois will stay open. On ramps will not. Eastbound ramps linking I-96 and the Lodge 75 north will also closed. If you plan on going anywhere near Downtown or Midtown this weekend…just don't. This means Eastern Market. Unless you want to bike it, and live close enough to do that, the trip might take a few hours. Sadly, it might be better to settle for Meijer. There's a new(isn) one on 8 Mile, just for such occasions.
