Free Press Marks Gilbert's 5th Anniversary in Downtown Detroit

New, 2 comments

In 2010, Dan Gilbert moved over a thousand Quicken Loans employees downtown, giving Detroit a much-needed shot in the arm. Since then, Gilbert has increased his holdings in the city and currently owns more than 12.5 million square feet of commercial real estate, much of it centered on Campus Martius and managed by a second Gilbert company, Bedrock Real Estate Services. The Detroit Free Press is marking the fifth anniversary of Gilbert's big move with an interview, video package and several thousand words' worth of newsprint. John Gallagher's Free Press story is a must-read if you want to understand one of Detroit real estate's most important figures, perhaps of all time. In addition to his vast real estate holdings and work with Quicken Loans, Gilbert is also restoring buildings throughout Detroit, and is sponsoring HGTV "Rehab Addict" Nicole Curtis' overhaul of Brush Park's Ransom Gillis House this summer.
