Yesterday's announcement of the sale of the Fisher Mansion to GM President Daniel Ammann brought new attention to Palmer Woods. This old-money Detroit enclave, close to the golf course and Palmer Park, boasts a number of gorgeous old houses—mansions, really—for sale. White the Fisher Mansion has few city rivals, these Palmer Woods homes have many of the 1920s touches that make the Fisher Mansion special. These houses cost far less than the 1.55 million. Daniel and Pernilla Ammann paid for their brand-new 1926 estate. While none have indoor pools or acres of grounds, these houses are worth a second glance, especially in light of the Fisher Mansion sale.

19285 Afton Rd

Facts: 6 beds, 3.5 baths, 5,980 square feet, built in 1931
Asking price: $375,000
Prior Sale(s): Sold in 2005 for $349,000

This large Tudor has a really pretty front door, set in a tower-like central structure. The home has many gorgeous original stained and leaded glass windows, hardwood floors, braided plaster cast tray ceilings, and hardwood floors. There's a third floor that has the plumbing a ductwork in place to become a massive in-law suits, not to mention an attached garage and fully fenced yard. The kitchen is strange—like a 60s home remodeling time capsule of honey-toned wood and MCM chrome combined with a 30s eating area (frescos!). That weirdness aside, the house has a lot to offer and many of its best original details endure.

19365 Cumberland

Facts: 7 beds, 4 baths, 4,636 square feet, built in 1937
Asking price: $675,000
Prior Sale(s): Sold in 2009 for $217,000

We profiled this Williamsburg Colonial last month. With its dining room mural, huge custom kitchen and general turn-key spiffiness, we thought this place wouldn't be long for the market. Still listed—and holding at $675K—this house is classic Palmer Woods opulence personified. Given the huge change in its price from 2009 to 2015—a shift of nearly $400K—we wonder about the asking price, but the Fisher sale will bring renewed interest in the neighborhood, so perhaps we'll see if Cumberland can cash in on the new notoriety of the zip code.

19160 Woodston Rd

Facts: 7 beds, 5 baths, 5,983 square feet, built in 1930
Asking price: $450,000
Prior Sale(s): Sold in 2000 for $565,000

This one is a head-scratcher. On the market for nearly two years, and selling for $125K less than it went for in 2000 (a seldom-seen price cut), this home has many interesting original details including the tile in the entry, the wood paneling and unique crown moldings in the library, and the chandelier in the dining room. The bad news: carpeted stairs and a dated, shabby 90s kitchen will need gutting. 5
