The 14th Annual Tour de Troit takes place this Saturday, September 19. The popular event allows hundreds of cyclists the opportunity to take to the main streets all over the city and view historic from one of the best and closest vantage points. While online registration ended, you can still register by presenting in person for packet pick up at 2727 Second Ave as well as on the day of the event at the registration area in Roosevelt Park.

In 2014, more than 7000 bike riders from all over metro Detroit, as well as from other US and international locales. Described by event organizers as "a leisurely ride of 30 miles with police escort," the ride starts at 9 am Saturday morning. If you're a more experienced cyclist, the event also provides challenges—there's a 62 mile "metric" version of the tour for the very, very dedicated.

The Tour raises awareness of bike ridership as a viable method of transport. It also brings attention to Detroit's newly established web of greenways and raises money to support even more greenway development in the city. A current project sponsored by the tour is the Southwest Detroit Greenlink and the GREEN Taskforce Vision for Greenways on Detroit's Lower Eastside.
