Which single-family remodel would you choose?

New, 6 comments

Let’s say you’re looking to purchase a move-in ready remodeled home up near 7 Mile and Livernois. You have about $325,000 to spend on your home. We’ve found two similar properties — one in Sherwood Forest and one in the University District. Both houses have pretty lovely exteriors and have been flipped in the past few months. Which one would you choose?

We’ll start in Sherwood Forest. This four bedroom, three and a half bath house has dark wood flooring, some original character in the leaded glass windows, and some built-in shelving in the study. The kitchen has been remodeled with a dizzying array of back splash and white cupboards. It also has a fireplace and additional storage in the partially finished basement. It also has a large yard and patio. According to the listing, it was purchased in August for $100,000 and is now ready for a new owner and asking $319,900.

This University District house has three bedrooms, three full and two half baths, and lighter wood floors and trim. This house has quite a few built-in bookshelves and three fireplaces. It’s coming in at around the same size as the first (3,500 square feet) and a covered patio in the back. It was purchased for $90,000 in May and is now asking $325,000. Update: The price was lowered to $299,000 this morning.
