It’s been a good year for retail in downtown Detroit, with the additions of the Nike Store, Kit and Ace, Detroit is the New Black, the Vault of Midnight, and more. Honestly, we’re hoping for exponentially more in the upcoming years. Thanksgiving weekend will see another new opening with popular eyeglass retailer Warby Parker moving in.
The retailer will open Saturday, November 26 at 1449 Woodward Avenue, or the Albert Kahn-designed Woodward Building on the Corner of Clifford and Woodward. Dan Gilbert's Bedrock was involved with the acquisition of this building a couple years ago, and Kit and Ace opened on the corner this summer.
We’ve seen the first-floor facade restored over the past year, and the release tells us what to expect inside the store. "...grey and white terrazzo tiled flooring, a 16-foot domed ceiling, suspended globe lighting, and brass detailing" They say it will have a library-like feel. We can also expect artwork from Detroit artist David Rubello.
For the Grand Opening, Warby Parker will have Vernor’s on hand, an optometrist available for appointments, and exclusive frames available.
Warby Parker will be open Monday–Saturday, 11:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. and Sunday, 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
