Perhaps the weather didn’t feel very holiday-like on Friday night (although that quickly changed overnight), but thousands came to downtown Detroit to watch the annual lighting of the tree in Campus Martius Park. Many captured the special evening, whether on the ground near the ice rink, looking up at the tree, or from one of the surrounding office buildings.
Friday night wasn’t just about the tree lighting. Olympic gold medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White took to the ice to entertain the crowd, Aaron Neville performed, and kids of all ages found the holiday spirit. Here are some of the best pictures we found of the action, from rink side to seeing our beautiful city in the background to capturing it all from above. Enjoy!
OK, we’re a little jealous of this one ...
And the lovely tree in all its glory...

Woodward is ready, too.

Happy Holidays, y’all!
