Who says this time of year is quiet for development and real estate? While it’s a little slower than usual, we still have a few bits of Detroit development news from the past week.
If you drive down Woodward between MLK and the new arena, you’ll see the signs for The Mondrian The Woodward @ Midtown. This apartment has seemingly been in development forever, but according to Crain’s, we could see it move along. The Crain’s article reports that the five-story apartment building, which will have 104 apartments and retail space, has “has received approval for the state to take a $3.5 million equity stake in the project,” and should start construction in the spring. Also included in the $30.9 million development - a three-story parking structure with 160 spaces.

The development is located at Woodward and Stimson, about a block away from Whole Foods, Starbucks, etc.
It’s also a few blocks away from the Little Caesars Arena, and if you can’t get enough Arena News, you can watch construction yourself from the comfort of your own home. The District Detroit has live web cam where you can see what’s happening inside and outside the arena. There’s also a time lapse video where you can see the entire build in about two minutes (that time lapse also has the implosion of the Park Avenue Hotel, FYI). There’s also a web cam for the Little Caesars HQ. Here’s the current view of the Arena:
It will be open for the 2017 Red Wings and Pistons seasons.
We haven’t seen an official groundbreaking yet, but we have noticed construction equipment and roads fenced off at The Coe development in West Village, so that has started the early phases of construction. This development will bring townhouses and retail space to a lot that’s been vacant for decades.
