Detroit Rent Comparison: What $1,000/Month Gets You

New, 6 comments

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a column that explores what one can rent for a set dollar amount in various Detroit neighborhoods. Is one man's studio another man's townhouse? Let's find out! Today's price: $1,000.

↑ This two-bedroom, two-bathroom rental gives you 1,000-1,400 square feet of space in one of the most walkable locations in the city. In the same building as Craft Work and next door to Red Hook and Detroit Vegan Soul, you can also walk to Sister Pie and bike to Belle Isle and the Riverfront from this location. This building has an extra charge for garage parking and cats.

↑ This three-bedroom, 1,500-square-foot house in Redford for $925 has a checkerboard floor in the one full bathroom. It also has a big living room with two sections—one space surrounded by windows and another with a big stone fireplace. The upstairs has all three bedrooms and built-in storage. There's extra storage available in the basement. No cats allowed, but you're pretty close to the Redford Theatre.

↑ $900 will get you into the Lorax House in Woodbridge. This is the smallest space we're showing you at 550 square feet. You'll pay for utilities, but the units have been fully insulated and boast about being energy efficient. The apartment is covered with bamboo flooring and the small kitchen and bathroom are fully updated. You'll also have one gated parking space. This is a good space for one person who wants to be in a unique home, but doesn't need too much room.

↑ This 750-square-foot, one bedroom apartment in the Fisher Kahn Apartments has lots of windows and pretty hardwood floors. Location is key for this one, which comes in at $950 a month, as New Center is seeing more business come in as the M-1 rail gets closer to completion. This unit is close to Grand Boulevard and Woodward Avenue and includes a gated, secure parking space.
