Architect Minoru Yamasaki, who designed the World Trade Center, is best known in Detroit for the McGregor Memorial Conference Center on the Wayne State campus and for One Woodward (formerly Michigan Consolidated Gas Company). In addition to many other buildings, Yamasaki also designed many smaller projects around the city, including this earlier work, the Sloan Dental Clinic, built in 1953. This midcentury modern home or office could be yours for $80,000.
The 1,100-square-foot building is zoned for commercial, but could easily be turned into a unique residence with two bedrooms. Many original details remain, but overall, the structure needs quite a bit of renovation and updating. But please, for the love of design, any renovations should stay with the original aesthetic. The original Yamasaki features include interior doors, cabinets, light fixtures and two clinic bathrooms with skylights. The structure comes with a large yard with room to build a garage. The sale includes the original blueprints! It’s being sold through Brandon Lee at O’Connor Realty. Have a look.
