New, 5 comments

Open for students in 2018

Earlier this week, we finally had more details on the Mike Ilitch School of Business at Wayne State University. Located at the corner of Woodward and Temple, the building finally broke ground in a big ceremony Wednesday. Readers debated over the renderings, which were the old ones at the time. But now the new one has been released, seen above. It has a much more open design than the one we previously saw.

According to Wayne State, Detroit-based Christman-Brinker was selected as the Construction Manager. Detroit-based architectural firm Smith Group JJR led the development of the updated design. The Detroit Downtown Development Authority earlier in the day approved a Master Development Agreement, with full construction expected to start later this year and the first students taking classes in 2018.

Major structural elements of the new building will include:

Open collaboration space

Student support facilities

Conference learning center

Classrooms

Lab space

Faculty offices

The ground level will have, "a full trading floor, an open air classroom, business incubator pop-up and corner café. "
