Albert Kahn-Designed Indian Village Mansion is One of the Most Expensive Sales This Year

$850,000

What a difference a few years makes. In early June, we brought you the listing of this massive (and by massive, we mean 9,290 square feet) Albert Kahn-designed house for sale for $890,000 in Indian Village. It had been on and off the market for the past few years, selling for $474,009 in 2013 and then $363,000 in 2015. After a big remodel, we can report that it was sold through Toni Jennings at City Living Detroit in 11 days for 95% of its asking price - $850,000.

When this listing was built in 1909, it was designed for Hugh Chalmers, founder of the Chalmers Motor Car Company. The property features 11 bedrooms, five full bathrooms, three half bathrooms, an oak-paneled office with a limestone fireplace, and an updated kitchen that sparked much debate among our readers. A custom French speakeasy was constructed in the basement for entertaining.

This will be one of the most expensive sales of the year in Detroit, but perhaps not the most (that Motown Mansion could get almost twice as much). Take one last look around.
