Under the blazing hot sun Thursday morning and in front of a crowd of media and construction workers, a crane placed the last piece of structural steel on the arena roof in a "topping out" ceremony. The crew has placed 7,500 pieces of steel since October.
These kinds of ceremonies date back to Scandinavian culture when they’d place a tree on top of a new building to show appreciation for the trees used. Now it’s more of a media event and celebration. But hey! We were able to get closer to the arena and get some new pictures.
Hard not to notice the Hotel Eddystone looming near the arena.
The arena is expected to open for the 2017 hockey season.
