In a press release today, west elm, the home furnishings and decor retailer owned by Williams Sonoma, announced five new hotels around the country, including one at Cass & Canfield in Midtown. The first properties will be in Charlotte, North Carolina; Indianapolis, Indiana; Savannah, Georgia; Nashville, Tennessee; and of course Detroit, and are slated to begin opening in 2018.
According to the release, "each property will feature local design elements that celebrate community and reflect traditional décor, handicraft, cuisine, and culture from the region, so guests can immerse themselves in the local community from the moment they walk through the door, experiencing local artwork and vibrant, communal common areas".
And, seeing as west elm is generally a home decor store, guests can purchase the artwork and furnishings in the hotel room through the west elm site.
On the west elm hotel page, they state that there will be 135+ rooms and an adjacent retail store in the Detroit location.
According to Crain’s, the location is one we reported on nearly three years ago, which is supposed to be a nine-story mixed-use building and could cost $60 million. A rep for Broder & Sachse confirms that they are working with west elm on this project, and we’ll report more when we know more.
