A new report from Linkedin claims that Detroit is one of the top cities attracting millennial job seekers. But don’t get too excited. This doesn’t mean they’re moving here yet.
The top five cities in the report were all mid-sized cities, with Austin topping the list and Detroit coming in at #3. Also on the list were Raleigh-Durham, Cleveland/Akron, and Charlotte. The report states that, "Over the past year, interest in mid-size cities among millennials has grown 25 percent faster than in large cities."
The study looked at Linkedin search behavior for people who graduated with a BA between 2001 and 2016. Detroit’s most popular industries were Automotive, IT and Services, and Marketing and Advertising. The most popular employers were GM, Ford, and Quicken Loans.
Pacific NW cities like Seattle and Portland have attracted many millennials in the past few years, but the increasing housing costs in these areas are making them less attractive to job seekers.
