Neighborhood happenings: Home tour, yard sales, dallying

Say hi to some of your neighbors this weekend

Michelle & Chris Gerard

This weekend is a good opportunity to get out and spend time in a few of the neighborhoods around Detroit. Here’s a rundown of what’s happening.

University District

Saturday is the annual University District Home Tour. The tour will feature six homes built in the 1920s and some gardens. Participants will also hear stories about the neighborhood and area. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. More information can be found here.

Indian Village

The annual Indian Village Yard Sale is this weekend, September 10 & 11. The massive two-day yard sale in historic Indian Village will have distinctive antiques, vintage nautical swag, furniture from various eras, fashion for all ages, frames, artwork, rugs, housewares, kitsch, and curios galore. Wander around the neighborhood and check out the lovely homes and goods. It runs Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 10-4.

West Village

And if you just feel like chilling, the West Village Biergarten will be up and running Saturday and Sunday starting at 11am. This is the third week for the biergarten.

Cass Corridor

If you feel like partying instead, the 39th Annual Dally in the Alley is this Saturday, September 10 starting at 11am. The volunteer-run event will have music everywhere, a kids fair, food and drink galore. It’ll take place between Second and Third, Forest and Hancock. Good luck with parking (or figure out an easier way to get there).
