Curbed Comparisons: Which fixer-upper would you choose?

New, 3 comments

This week, we’re looking at a few fixer uppers that are currently on the market in neighborhoods around Detroit. They’re coming in at very different price points with different amounts of work to be done. Which one has the greatest potential? Which neighborhood and house would you prefer? Vote below.

2233 Sheridan Street

We’ve seen an awful lot of real estate activity in Islandview this year. Any guesses on what this one would have sold for a year ago? This four-bedroom home has new siding, new windows, new furnaces and duct work, new plumbing and more. It just needs to be finished. It’s over 1,500 square feet and features newly installed front and back porches. It listed a couple weeks ago for $120,000 and has since dropped in price to $90,000.

1228 25th Street

This Hubbard-Richard duplex or single-family home (although duplex might make more sense), still has a lot of character, including hardwood floors, a great fireplace, built-ins, and claw-foot tubs. We’d like to see more windows in the back of the house, though. This one is over 3,000 square feet and located by St. Anne’s Church. It just listed for $180,000.

1728 Clairmount

This duplex is located in the Virginia Park neighborhood, west of the Lodge on Clairmount. We’ve seen activity pick up here in recent months, and this 2,488-square-foot one is priced at $56,900. Good opportunity to get in before prices rise?

13139 Chandler Park Drive

This weird castle-like duplex is located on the east side. The listing states it’s in poor condition, which we can see from some of the photos. It’s over 2,800 square feet, with an upper and lower unit. It’s listing for $45,000.
