Could East Jefferson be next for the QLINE?

More development is coming just east of downtown, between Lafayette Park and the riverfront. A new apartment building at 1475 East Jefferson will have 213 units, plus retail space including a small-format Meijer grocery store. The development should be open in 2019.

The 42,339-square-foot store, which will employ up to 70 people, will focus on fresh foods and groceries. The development will also have 120 parking spaces for the store and 221 underground residential parking spaces. 20 percent of the units are deemed “affordable.”

This development is another step in the East Riverfront/East Jefferson development plan. According to a fact sheet provided to Curbed, the added development is meant to add more density to the area, and the hope is to slow down traffic on East Jefferson over time. The fact sheet also notes that East Jefferson could potentially be home to the next QLINE extension.

The development team is called East Jefferson Development Co., LLC, and includes Dennis Archer, Jr., Christopher Brochert, and Daniel Stern, with Lormax Stern and Marcel Burgler with Prime Development. The developer will also make improvements to the neighboring park along Jefferson.
