New Center will be getting more much-needed retail. Urbānum—a home furnishings, design, and gift boutique—will open at 6545 Woodward Avenue near Grand Boulevard in spring 2018.

The store will have exclusive lighting brands, custom furniture, textiles, host and hostess gifts, and found goods, plus interior design services. Shoppers can expect industrial vibes with a warm, homey quality.

Shopkeeper Brigid Beaubien (whose family roots date back to Detroit’s founding) will run the store. She also designed the interior of 8 Degrees Plato in Midtown, which she owns with her husband Tim Costello.

“I very much want the Urbānum experience to exude an authentic warmth, graciousness, and hospitality, providing our clients with the ability to express this in their own homes, in their own way,” said Beaubien.

The 1,800-square-foot showroom is located near the end of the QLINE, right across from another new redevelopment at Woodward and Grand Boulevard, which will add residential and retail to New Center. Down the street at the Fisher Building, more retail has been announced in recent months.
