Detroit home comparisons: Here’s what $125K can buy right now

This week, we’re comparing homes around the city that are all coming in within $10,000 of our target price: $125,000. We found a duplex in decent shape, a co-op in a popular high rise, a renovated home just north of New Center, and a Grand Boulevard beauty. Which would you choose? Vote in our poll below.

2015 Gladstone Street

This two-family flat in the Virginia Park neighborhood west of the Lodge is in pretty good shape. Each unit has three bedrooms and one bath, and the units share a common basement for storage. We recently mentioned this neighborhood as one to watch, as many more homes are being renovated. This property offers an investment opportunity for someone who either wants to live in one or rent out both. It’s listed right on target for $124,500.

1300 East Lafayette #204-05

For something completely different, here’s a two bedroom, two bath co-op in 1300 E. Lafayette. It gives the new owner plenty of space right next to downtown, plus it’s close to the Riverfront and Eastern Market. Its price of $119,000 puts us below budget, but the HOA fees for the co-op run $1,825 per month, which includes property taxes, utilities, maintenance, and more.

932 East Grand Boulevard

This Islandview home has four bedrooms, one full and one half bath, lovely woodwork, a front porch, and curb appeal. It’s located between Mack and Gratiot on East Grand Boulevard, where we’ve seen a lot of real estate activity this year. It’s listing for $127,000.

708 West Euclid Street

This three-bedroom townhouse has just been renovated, with hardwood floors and a new kitchen and bathroom. It’s just under 1,500 square feet and located north of New Center, a few blocks off of Woodward. It’s listing for $129,000.
