Back in April, we ran a poll asking what our readers might like to see at the fail jail site, which sits at 375 and Gratiot and currently holds the shell of a jail. Back in February, Dan Gilbert and Rock Ventures offered Wayne County to build a criminal justice complex a mile down I-75 and in return, they could build a soccer stadium (and more) for a Major League Soccer team we don’t have yet. Readers overwhelmingly (75%) wanted the stadium.
Last week, Rock Ventures and the Ford family announced that instead of building a new stadium, Ford Field would be offered up as a venue for the MLS team. Wayne County is expected to make a decision before the end of the year on the Rock Ventures offer, and many signs point to Dan Gilbert and company getting that prime land. So we’re here to ask again, now what would you like to see on that site?
The jail is obviously still a possibility. Many call the location a gateway to downtown, with its proximity to Greektown, Eastern Market, and Ford Field. We keep talking about the need for more office buildings; could this be a great place to build a few more (hello Amazon!)? Perhaps a hotel and some residential could be a good addition to this area.
Please let us know in the poll below and share your thoughts in the comments. Someday, we’d love to report on what will actually happen with this land.

I’m sure a large company like Amazon would love to move into some shiny new office buildings there.
