This summer, we reported that the Viola Building, on a prominent location in Eastern Market, was up for sale for $1,995,000. We’ve just learned that the building was sold; according to selling agent Steven Silverman from Friedman Real Estate, it went for just under its asking price.
The building is located on the corner of Gratiot and Russell. The block itself is loaded with small businesses (we visited a while back). The ground floor of the Viola Building is home to Discount Candles (which has a lease through March), and the upper floors have office space.
According to Silverman, the building will look different inside and out. The new owners plan on many capital improvements in the first quarter of 2018, including tuck pointing, new windows, acid washing, a new roof, fixing the elevator, and adding AC to all floors. The first floor will have restaurant and retail space, while floors 2-5 will continue to have office space. Silverman will be handling the leasing of the space.
