A new ballroom and fresh upgrades are on the way to The Hamilton, a Midtown apartment building formerly called the Milner Arms Apartments. The 93-unit building located at 40 Davenport opened in 1913 as the Hotel Stevenson and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Broder & Sachse Real Estate is the developer and property manager, while Sachse Construction is the construction manager on the project. Hamilton Anderson Associates is the architect of record.

The project was announced earlier this year. Residents are temporarily being moved out of their apartments and will return to upgraded, freshly renovated units. Broder & Sachse has worked with the City of Detroit’s Department of Housing and Revitalization and Midtown Detroit Inc.’s Stay Detroit Program to help keep qualified residents in place.

“Sachse Construction is continually undertaking significant historical projects in Detroit and preserving landmark properties like The Hamilton to keep Detroit’s neighborhoods growing and vibrant,” Sachse said. “The rehabilitation of The Hamilton will create additional safe and functional housing options in the Midtown area, and the necessary updates we’re making to this property will have a lasting positive impact on our community.”

The renovations will also include new flooring and appliances in common areas, as well as new plumbing and electrical, and outdoor landscaping. The renovation is expected to be completed in Fall 2018.
