The RoboCop statue is coming; where will it land?

New, 2 comments

Friends, it’s been while since we’ve posted an update on the RoboCop statue. The campaign to bring a 10-foot bronze RoboCop statue to Detroit posted two short updates last year, none in 2015, and a few in 2014. Don’t fear! It’s still in the works. Still coming...soon!

According to the update, the final molds were made in October 2016 and careful assembly has started. They say in the next update, they’ll reveal the location. Earlier reports suggested TechTown or Roosevelt Park, then some thought it could be on display somewhere downtown. Where will it go? When will it be completed? Will it be as iconic as the Rocky statue in Philly? Who gets their first selfie with the big guy? We have a lot of questions, and we just want to see this happen. Here are a few pictures provided in the latest update. Feel free to speculate away!

The update carefully details the assembly of the statue’s lower half.

“The strategy in assembly is planned with careful choices to make it a safe and efficient process. Legs from foot, to ankle, calf, knee and thigh, then hip, repeat. Comparing to images documented before the model was cut into these pieces, all angles are matched for alignment. Once the legs are assembled up to the hip, materials have to be hand formed to create the joint between hip and pelvis, again measuring and matching to the original images.”

The update says the torso has about a dozen pieces that need to fit together like a puzzle.
