Detroit Rent Comparisons: What can $800 rent you right now?

Which would you choose?

Welcome to this week's installment of Curbed Comparisons, where we explore what you can rent for a certain dollar amount in various Detroit neighborhoods. Recently, we’ve looked at a few pricier rentals. This week we’re looking at rentals around the city within $100 of today's price: $800.

First up we’re heading to West Village and the Van Dyke Manor Apartments. They’re located at the corner of Van Dyke and Lafayette. We know they’ve gone through multiple owners the past few years - any updates from residents? This one is a one bed, one bath, 635-square-foot space. It’s located a block away from the shops on Agnes Street and about a mile from Belle Isle. It’s listing for $725 a month.

This might be a nice rental in New Center, but we can’t tell from the pictures. Located just off Woodward on Seward, this two bedroom, one bath unit is 710 square feet and has gated parking. It’s also located a few blocks down from the end of the QLINE. It’s listing for an even $800 a month.

Here’s a cute renovated rental in Hamtramck. This two bedroom, one bath unit is 1,000 square feet and utilities are included in the $900 a month rent.

Here’s a two bedroom, one bath recently renovated unit in the North End. This one has carpeting in the living room and a newer kitchen. It’s listing for $800 a month and cats are allowed.

This last one is a three bedroom, one bath single-family home located in northwest Detroit. This is roomier than the others, at over 1,000 square feet. We’re wondering if there might be a ghost in the fireplace. It’s renting for $800 a month.
