Welcome to Friday Open Threads, wherein we'll pass the mic to readers to speak up about topics of interest, distress, horror, and more. Have something you want discussed? Let us know. This week’s topic: the west riverfront.
This week, the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy unveiled their massive plan for Detroit’s East RiverFront, which includes components of development, green space, greenways, and enhanced streetscapes. It will take a lot of work to make this vision a reality, but it’s a great vision and exciting for the east side.
The process for creating this plan took a lot of community input, meetings, and work. So let’s turn our direction to the west side, specifically on the other side of the Joe Louis Arena.
Currently, the Riverwalk starts up past the Riverfront Apartments on West Jefferson to Rosa Parks. There are some benches, paved walkway, and some park space. There have been some summer concerts in the park over the past few summers. It’s prime green space for Corktown and Southwest Detroit. What would you like to see happen to this park, readers?
