One more development we can anticipate in the near future close to the new arena is this handsome eight-story building on Temple Street, near the Masonic Temple and across from Cass Park. Crain’s is reporting that the Wayne County Commission approved the sale of the building, which will undergo a $20 million renovation in the next few years.
According to Crain’s, “The redevelopment plan includes Gretchen Valade, whose grandfather Hamilton Carhartt founded the eponymous Dearborn-based workwear brand Carhartt Inc. in 1889.”
The redevelopment, which hasn’t been formally announced yet, could include more than 100 apartments plus retail space for the 190,000-square-foot building.
The building is right around the corner from the Boulevard Hostel redevelopment on Second Avenue, which will turn a vacant structure into a 60-room hostel, offering a lower-cost alternative to travelers who want to stay near downtown, the arena, and midtown. The Boulevard Hostel should be complete in 2018.
