Last month, we featured a castle-like house in the University District that looked like it was loved and maintained throughout the years. It’s a beautiful house, over 3,000 square feet, with five bedrooms, three full and two half baths, and a landscaped backyard.

It listed in March for $389,900, which seemed to be pushing it for a house that wasn’t exactly updated. But it was maintained, with so many original details still intact — Pewabic tiling, leaded glass, arched doorways — plus our favorite, a basement bar. It just sold for $387,000.
It’s the kind of house where we feel lucky in Detroit to have this beautiful architecture. The prices in University District are rising. This is a big sale — could we see some listings push $400K soon? Will the neighborhoods surrounding UD start to pick up (especially since Fitzgerald will be seeing a big revitalization)? We’ll get a better idea this summer. Here’s another look around.
