Ground will break next Monday, May 1 on a new development of a historic school building. The Saint Charles Residences are located at 1454 Townsend, between St. Paul and Agnes Street and right in between West Village and Belle Isle.

Banyan Investments, who owns and redevelops many buildings in West Village, is the developer on the project. FX Architecture LLC, in Royal Oak and Gensler NY are the architects. Invest Detroit, Michigan Strategic Fund, and the City of Detroit are investors on the project, and the Loft Warehouse is the broker.

The renovation of the St. Charles School will have 25 condos with high ceilings, big windows, luxury master suites, open concept designs, and “secure outdoor space.” Work should be finished on the project next year.

Dbusiness reports that, “Units will range from 894 square feet to 1,640 square feet, with a price point of $275,000-$470,000.” Work should be done by spring next year. This will give new options to those looking to invest in the area. Single-family homes rarely come up for sale in West Village, and Islandview has seen a big increase in homes for sale this year.

We’ll have more info as it becomes available.
