Elton Park to break ground in Corktown

New, 2 comments

May is turning out to be quite the busy month in the Detroit development world. The QLINE starts rolling May 12. Dan Gilbert’s transformational bill is making progress on the state level (which will help the Hudson’s site project). The Packard Plant will start construction later this month. The Foundation Hotel opens soon. And now, we have another large residential development that will start construction.

Elton Park, a $150 million, multi-phase mixed-use development, will break ground for Phase One of the project May 8 in Corktown. Phase One comes in at $45 million, spanning five blocks with six buildings. It will have 151 rental units with 124,000 square feet of residential space and 13,400 square feet of retail. Soave Enterprises is leading this development.

Elton Park is located behind the Checker Cab Company and the shops and restaurants along Michigan Avenue. Nearby, across Trumbull, is the redevelopment of the old Tiger Stadium site, including the Police Athletic League Headquarters and future mixed-use residential.

Corktown doesn’t see a lot of residential turnover. The site of Elton Park is currently vacant and located right by the Lodge, close to downtown. We’ll have more details soon.
