The Denby Center lists for just under $3M

It’s not often we see an entire compound listed for sale. Locate on Pembroke, just south of 8 Mile and near the Berg-Lahser neighborhood, the Denby Center is a 92,845-square-foot compound located across nearly four acres. It was most recently the Salvation Army Denby Center for Children & Family Services. The property is listing for $2,999,000.

The compound has many separate parts: a main building with offices and sleeping quarters, a dining room with kitchen, a gymnasium, residential cottages, a playground, and parking lots. The main building was designed by Jameson & Graves in 1937, with additions and modifications throughout the years. It’s been used as assisted living, senior housing, an orphanage, and the Salvation Army in the past. The Salvation Army vacated in 2016 to downsize, but secured the building so it’s still in good condition. We hear the cottages are basically in new condition. What might be the next use for a campus this size in northwest Detroit?
