Later this month, a 10,000-square-foot office building designed by Minoru Yamasaki, who designed the World Trade Center, will be up for auction in Detroit. Yamasaki designed numerous buildings in and around the city (this map has information on many), including the Michigan Consolidated Gas Company building downtown (now known as One Woodward) and many buildings on the Wayne State campus, such as the McGregor Conference Center.
The American Concrete Institute Building is located in northwest Detroit on Seven Mile between Berg and Lahser. It was built in 1958 as the headquarters for the American Concrete Institute. According to Michigan Modern, “All they asked for was a dramatic building that would show off the capabilities of concrete as a building material.” The building is in good condition and is currently partially leased for $54,000 per year. The auction site states that the owner is very motivated and it will go to the highest bidder, “Regardless of Price!!!” It goes up for auction on July 25.
