Welcome to Friday Open Threads, wherein we’ll pass the mic to readers to speak up about topics of interest, distress, horror, and more. Have something you want discussed? Let us know. This week’s topic: the varying rents in Detroit.

Compared to other big cities, the cost to rent in Detroit remains fairly low. Still, over the last few years, rental prices have continued to climb as the city experiences a resurgence. This week we’re curious: how much did you pay for rent for your first Detroit apartment?

We’d also like to know which neighborhood it was in and what condition it was in. Was it just a few years ago? In the ’80s or ’90s? Did you snag a huge loft or a house on the cheap? Was your apartment in a newly restored downtown high rise? Or was it in a part of town that still hasn’t seen the boom in development yet?

Speak up in the comments below.
