The Shinola Hotel won’t open until later this year, but a retail space right next door is set to open next week. Women’s clothing store Madewell will officially open Tuesday, October 16 at 10 a.m. at 1426 Woodward.

Additional retailers coming to the hotel development—which will take up a significant part of that block—include raw juice maker Drought, fragrance maker Le Labo, and clothing store Good Neighbor, according to Crain’s. NoHo Hospitality has been hiring lately, and a beer hall and cocktail lounge has been confirmed.

In addition to its retail offerings, Madewell will sell local goods from Tait Design Co., Worthwhile Paper, and Salt Textile Studio. Local artist Ellen Rutt’s artwork will also be sold in the store, and Rutt will also create window graphics in the storefront along Woodward.

The public is invited to a grand opening party Tuesday, October 16 from 6-8 p.m. The celebration will have food local businesses from Gather and Sister Pie, and drinks from Cason Waters and craft cocktails by Sfumato. Local artists will also be on hand with artwork to sell. Ten percent of the proceeds from the opening party will go to Detroit’s youth program Living Arts.

Retail has been slowly coming back to downtown Detroit and Woodward Avenue in recent years. Newer offerings include Nike, Under Armour, Lululemon, Warby Parker, Bonobos, and G-Star Raw.
