Visitors to the businesses on West Canfield Street in Midtown or Capitol Park downtown should take note of the many creative window displays. Lawrence Technological University’s Detroit Center for Design + Technology (DCDT) has paired with eight local businesses for festive holiday window design competition.

Participating businesses include Third Man Records, Run Detroit, Jolly Pumpkin, and Go! Sy Thai in Midtown, as well as Pure Barre, La Lanterna, Dessert Oasis, and Eatori in Capitol Park.

The displays, often best viewed at night, feature a variety of lighting, lettering, paint, and even video.

Visitors can vote for their favorites until December 3 by tagging @detdesigntech and using #HolidayWindowWalk18 on social media photos. A panel of judges including Karl Daubmann of LTU’s College of Architecture and Design, Cydney Camp from Design Core Detroit, and Lily Hamburger from the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation will review the designs and place their votes before December 4. The winning business and designer will each receive $500.

The Design Incubator at the DCDT offers programs and resources for small businesses in Detroit, as well as events like this to highlight both design and business in the city.
