Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we look at different homes for sale around the city listed in a certain price range. For the price of a mansion in one neighborhood, we might find a condo in another. This week, we’re looking at homes within $10,000 of our budget: $65,000.


16887 Lawton Street

This Martin Park home is nice looking from the outside and could use some love on the inside. This five bedroom home is over 2,100 square feet, with hardwood floors and a handsome fireplace in the living room. No photos of the kitchen, though. It’s located near McNichols and Livernois, close to the University of Detroit Mercy, and it’s listed for $60,000.

Here’s an unusual updated house in the 8 Mile/Wyoming area. It has three bedrooms, cathedral ceilings, big upper windows, a new kitchen, new bathroom tiling and fixtures, and a basement for storage. The listing also states the house has updated electrical and plumbing and a new furnace. It’s listed for $69,900.

This cute three bedroom home in Rosedale Park has recently been renovated. It has a new kitchen, one and a half baths, and a basement. It’s located close to the Southfield Freeway, a few blocks from Grand River, and it’s listed for $65,000.


7002 Thatcher Street

Here’s a nice looking two-family home in the Bagley neighborhood. This one comes in at just under 2,000 square feet, with two bedrooms in each unit. Both kitchens have been updated in this house. It’s located close to a lot of redevelopment in the area. It’s listed for $69,900.
