Look inside WeWork’s expansive Detroit coworking offices

Photo by Michelle & Chris Gerard

Detroit offers entrepreneurs, freelancers, and start-ups a wide variety of coworking offices in the city. While most are homegrown offices, the international company WeWork has set up in some prime downtown locations over the last year. Their offices cover seven floors at 1449 Woodward (their Merchant’s Row location) and three larger floors at 1001 Woodward (Campus Martius) with 800 desks each.

Curbed stop by to check out the popular coworking spaces, filled with music, greenery, bright colors, and bold patterns.

The company has many options for its clients; private offices can accommodate multiple desks, hot desks (or seats at a table) are flexible options, conference rooms can be reserved with an app. Common areas have a variety of seating options, plus counters for coffee and refreshments. An Honesty Market has snacks; clients use an app to pay for them. Phone booths are also on hand for extra privacy.

To get an idea of what private offices look like, start-up Bloomscape—which delivers house plants to homes—let us peek inside their Detroit office.

The Motor City offices also have Detroit-specific programs. In the Merchant’s Row location, the Planet M Landing Zone—run by the MEDC and the Detroit Chamber—has work space for mobility companies in the city. In Campus Martius, a Veterans in Residence program is in place through Bunker Labs.

WeWork uses in-house designers for their offices, and while many of the floors have the same vibe, they each look a little different.

What makes WeWork different than other coworking spaces in the city? A membership offers access to any of their locations (they currently have over 200 locations in 60 cities around the world). The company hosts many professional and social events for their clients, and they have wellness rooms, bike storage, and a new podcast studio in the Campus Martius location. This centrally-located office space will cost you: hot desks (seats at the tables) start at $250 per month, while a dedicated desk starts at $360 per month. A private office starts at $510 per month.
