What do you really think about the proposed transit plan?

Speak out below and to decision makers

Welcome to Open Threads, wherein we’ll pass the mic to readers to speak up about topics of interest, distress, horror, and more. Have something you want discussed? Let us know.

Last week, Warren Evans introduced a new transit plan to the RTA. The plan offers more buses, more frequently throughout the four counties (Wayne, Washtenaw, Oakland, and Macomb). It also offers options for those in outlying areas where the buses don’t run. Also included—a commuter train to Ann Arbor and more airport options in each county.

Many readers expressed their disappointment with the plan right away, saying it was “unimpressive,” “not innovative or forward thinking enough,” and “light-weight.”

But is it at least a starting point? Does it address needs of residents who use transit, or are considering using transit? After thinking about it for a few days, does it look any different to you?

Of course, we’d like to know what you think in the comments. But our comments only go so far. Transportation Riders United (TRU) is asking for feedback on the proposal. Thoughts and concerns can be sent to TRU here or directly to the RTA here. If you’re an Oakland County resident, an Oakland County Commissioners meeting is planned for Wednesday. More details here.
