Here’s what $195K buys in Detroit right now

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we compare houses for sale in different neighborhoods across Detroit in a certain price range. For the price of a condo in one neighborhood, one might find a mansion in another. Today, we’re looking at houses within $10,000 of our price: $195,000.

20188 Lichfield Road, $194,900

Coming in right at our budget is a three bedroom, one and a half bath home in a neighborhood where we haven’t seen many listings lately: Green Acres. This house has built-ins in the dining room, a newer kitchen, a wood-paneled rec room of a basement, and a deck in the backyard. It’s located near shops and restaurants along Livernois, Sherwood Forest, Meijer, and Ferndale.

17331 Santa Barbara Drive, $199,000

This handsome three bedroom, one and a half bath Bagley brick house is loaded with character, including colorful tiling in the kitchen and bathroom, plasterwork, leaded glass windows, and archways. We’d imagine the new owner might want to do some updates, at least in the kitchen. We’re not sure Bagley is here yet with this price, although we’ve seen a lot of activity in the neighborhood this year. It’s located near Livernois, Marygrove College, and the University of Detroit Mercy.

6533 E Jefferson Unit 130, $185,000 ($450 HOA)

For those looking for a smaller place close to nature, this Rivertown loft is located right across from Belle Isle. Inside, find exposed brick, high ceilings, an industrial vibe, an open layout, one bedroom, and two baths. The community also has a fitness center and a pool, and it’s close to West Village and a couple miles from the Central Business District.

3320 Spinnaker Lane Unit 16E, $194,900 ($625 HOA)

If condo living is more your speed, this one bedroom unit in Harbortown has impressive downtown views. It’s a prime fireworks viewing location from the 16th floor. The building is right on the Riverfront, and the development has a pool, fitness center, marina, and tennis courts. It’s right in between Belle Isle and downtown.
