Curbed Comparisons: What $400K buys in Detroit and the suburbs

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we look at different homes in various neighborhoods all within the same price range. This week, we’re hitting the road and including homes in both Detroit and the suburbs. We’re looking at houses within $10,000 of our price range: $400,000. Which would you choose? 18105 Parkside, Detroit: $399,000

First up we’ll visit this five-bedroom house in Detroit. For $399K, this house has 3,650 square feet, cool original details, a basement bar, a new kitchen, and so many different types of flooring. You’ll also find a wood-paneled den with built-ins, a safe right when you enter the front, and a basement bar. It’s located in the thriving University District, near many shops and restaurants along Livernois.

84 Kensington Boulevard, Pleasant Ridge: $399,000

Up in Pleasant Ridge, here’s a three bedroom, one and a half bath new build. This house has an open floor plan in the living space, three bedrooms on the second floor, a fenced backyard with a deck and a three-car garage, and curb appeal. It’s located near the Detroit Zoo, Royal Oak, and Ferndale.

1091 Madison Street, Birmingham: $395,000

In Birmingham, we found a cute four bedroom, one and a half bath home. Built in 1925, this house has original charm and modern updates, along with an attached (via breezeway) garage, a patio, and a fenced-in backyard. It’s located a few blocks from Woodward, not too far from shops in Birmingham, Somerset, and Cranbrook.

5800 Steadman Street, Dearborn: $399,000

If one kitchen just isn’t enough, this brick bungalow in Dearborn has two full kitchens. The house has four bedrooms, three full baths, and a huge living space in the basement, including kitchen and fireplace. It sits on a corner lot with a fenced yard and patio. It’s located off of Ford Road and Greenfield, near Henry Ford Village.

1170 Devonshire Road, Grosse Pointe Park: $399,900

Over in Grosse Pointe Park, here’s a three bedroom, two and a half bath brick colonial in our price range. It has a big living room, a family room, a den, and a big backyard. It’s located just off of Kercheval, between two commercial corridors in the Pointes.
