Metro Detroit home comparisons: What $280K buys right now

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, where we look at different homes in various neighborhoods all within the same price range. This week, we’re hitting the road and including homes in both Detroit and the suburbs. We’re looking at houses within $10,000 of our price range: $280,000. Which would you choose? 20176 Briarcliff Road, Detroit

This adorable Tudor in Green Acres has modern updates and so much charm. Inside, find decorative molding, a fireplace, many built-ins, a sunroom, a bay window in the living room, a kitchen with open shelving and a little nook where the fridge and oven sit, three bedrooms, and more living space in the kitchen. It’s 2,117 square feet and it’s located near Livernois, the Meijer on 8 Mile, and Ferndale. The price? $280,000.

1034 Pearson Street, Ferndale

This three bedroom house in Ferndale sits on a double lot and yes, it includes an in-ground pool. Inside, it also has a bay window and fireplace in the living room, a kitchen whose decor is a little bit country—where we find another fridge in a nook, a sun room, and living space in the basement. This one is 1,179 square feet, and it’s not too far from downtown Ferndale. It’s yours for $274,900.

31 Sylvan Avenue, Pleasant Ridge

Over in Pleasant Ridge, this two bedroom, two bath house has a lovely fireplace in the living room, a cool white and stainless steel kitchen, a finished basement, and a huge deck with a pergola out back. It’s only 1,100 square feet and located a couple blocks off of Woodward, near 696 and the Detroit Zoo. It’s listing for $275,000.

1958 Griffith Avenue, Berkley

This four bedroom house in Berkley has a big front porch and the brightest kitchen we’ve seen in a while. Must love turquoise. You’ll also find a small living room, a larger family room, a peninsula for seating in the kitchen, room for a table in the kitchen, large bedrooms, and a garage. It’s near Eleven Mile, Royal Oak, and 696 and it’s listing for $284,000.

1315 Cadieux Road, Grosse Pointe Park

And in Grosse Pointe Park, this brick ranch has three bedrooms and two baths over 1,520 square feet. This house has an open kitchen/dining area, a fireplace, a lofty bedroom, new tiling in the master bathroom, storage in the basement, and a decent backyard. It’s close to many shops and restaurants on the east side, and it’s listing for $279,900.
